Description
The genus name from dios = divine (Greek) and pyros = pear suggests quality edible fruit or 'pear of the gods' is reinforced by the Afrikaans name 'hemelvrug' for another member of the Diospyros genus, the persimmon. Are the fruits in the photo also edible (and as popular as those of D. lycioides)?
