Aristea capitata is a clump-forming, rhizomatous perennial that grows on the lower slopes of Western Cape mountains. In bloom these robust plants reach heights around 1,5 m.
The species used to be called A. major. It is commonly known as the blue scepter.
Propagation from seed is common, but may also be done vegetatively by dividing rhizomes of mature plants, although this is not common (www.plantzafrica.com).
