Description
Gladiolus saccatus is one of southern Africa's 160 or so Gladiolus species. It grows in both summer and winter rainfall areas and in both high and low rainfall zones. Does it flower in summer as well as winter? A record of flowering in August has been found. The plant occurs in the Western and the Northern Cape, as well as in southern Namibia. The flowers are also part of the Namaqualand flower display. Pollination is performed by birds (www.pacificbulbsociety.com).
