Image information

Description

The simple leaves of Polygala myrtifolia are spirally arranged and crowded upon the young branches. Petioles are short to nearly absent.

The leaves are elliptic or narrowly oblong in shape. The tips are rounded with short protruding bristles and the bases taper. The margins are entire and slightly rolled under or flat. The blades, often fresh green, in picture bear several shades of green, blue-green and yellow-green. The leaf dimensions vary much, from 2 cm to 5 cm by 0,8 cm to 1,3 cm.

According to their specific name, myrtifolia, these leaves resemble those of the myrtle tree (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; Coates Palgrave, 2002; iNaturalist).
